Hi,

Just built a new pc (everything new, inc monitor) and having some problems. You boot it up all fine, get past the loading bar for windows xp, then just as it will swap to the login/desktop the monitor loses signal. It is also weird if you reboot the pc the monitor doesn't always detect the pc has been turned on so doesnt come into life.

So far I tried turning all hardware acceleration off for the graphics card in windows, that didn't do anything, also does it with safe mode.

What suggestions do people have to go from here?

Trying a different monitor could be one quick way to rule out the monitor itself being the issue.

Have you tried lowering the resolution manually and the refresh rate? Worth a try.

Could always re-install graphics drivers as well.

We have this at work sometimes when the monitors don't support the resolution and refresh rate.

Have you made any changes to the bios?

If so, are any of the voltages reporting lower then they should be?

Does safe mode work?

I'm having a similar problem with my new build, be interested to see your spec saitrix (assuming its not a 1980 Triumph Dolomite Sprint ;)). I seemed to have fixed my problem by changing the power saving settings in windows (control panel -> power options) and the problem seemed to have gone away, although it did happen again just now mid-game, although the screen came back after 20 seconds.

[edit] my spec:

Asus P5K-E wifi
E2200 dual core
gainward bliss 8800GT
crucial ballistix tracer (1033MHz)

Just tried a different monitor, still doesn't work. From my knowledge nothing has been changed in the bios, but will check the voltages. Graphics drivers have been reinstalled also.

I remember seeing the refresh rate at 60Hz, plus the res isnt that high really.

PC Specs:
E2140
ATi X1950 Pro
2gb Geil PC2 6400 (2x1Gb)

Little update,

Just tried with only 1 stick of memory installed, so far so good!

Voltages:

NB Vcore = 1.21V
5V = 4.91V
12V = 12.22V
3.3V = 3.26V
Vbat = 3.00V

ram problem? Thats really weird. Don't think that is my problem, surely if the ram is playing up I would have a complete crash instead of the screen going blank for a short time then returning as if nothing had gone wrong? Gfx problem maybe? [bit of a thread hijack i'm afraid]
