went out on a wim yesterday and bought a PS3 60bg with motorstorm/fifa 08 and another one i forgot the name of (set in wwII times, but erm, monsters lol)

anyway i bought a HDMI cable, got home and realised even though my tv is hd it doesnt have a HDMI slot, i heard something about using a component cable to get it HD at 1080? Which cable is this?
Finally is it better to have it stood up or laid down.

Don't think you can get 1080p over component and if your TV doesn't have a HDMI port then it wont be a 1080p set anyway.

Just run it at 720p/1080i over component.

as above get componant cable

Dont think it makes any difference whether its stood up or flat as long as there is enough "breathing" space around it, you should be fine

Hope you enjoy your purchase

ive had it laid down and it does get very hot, but there is load of room around it so it should be ok.

Is there a massive difference between the 1080p and using just normal AV that i have at the moment?

I have to admit that i had my first experience of a PS3 the other day. Granted it was on my mates stunning 42" 1080p LCD TV but as a 360 owner i was VERY impressed with some of the stuff. GT5 HD Demo was phenominal i was really stunned at how good it looked. Totally different to anything else i have seen on the 360. Loved the interface and the silence... Bliss... All in all a very slick machine. I will be honest, if there were better games i would be very interested in a swap for my 360 but alas it wont be happening any time soon...

i agree, everyone i know and myself who have or have owned a PS3 cannot fault the actual console itself, however controllers, PSN and interface are subject to taste

Surely you can say that about any console (well obviously you have been specific about PSN, but put MarketPlace or N version in its place)

I personally find the PS3 controller much more comfy for my hands for hours compared to the X360 one - and I know some who think the same and also the exact opposite :D

yeah i know, but the console as a unit is rock solid and does look awesome and you won't see many if any complaints, it just reminds me of the black monolith out of Space Odyssey films, lol
