Hmm. I've got a 1998S Ka2 'collection' (1.3i) - It's done 75k miles, but the engine is absolutely A1 - never done a day's work in its life. The rest of it is nice too, but the body is rotting away. Both sills, the floor where it joins the bulkhead, and around the filler cap are all in various stages of disintegration. Basically it's knackered. I reckon it'll pass its next MOT in feb but after that, its going to need too much work.
My mum has a base model, much newer Ka which will take all the electric windows, leather trim etc that make mine a 2 'collection" - I figured i could give her a nice free upgrade.
Now i'm into the old land rovery philosophy of not wasting usable parts, but breaking spent vehicles down for any usable stuff.
I'm thinking, when the Ka fails its next MOT, I'm going to sell it as individual parts & just scrap the rest.
i've always loved Lotus 7 replica Kit Cars - Like the Robin Hood 2B types. now, the 8v engine in the Ka is the old SEFI version, which is the old 1.3 crossflow ford lump with EFI. I've seen mk2 escort 1.3 engines fitted in kit cars to great effect before..
The engine is already somewhat modified, with a stage2 head, mild road cam etc - I get about 85-90bhp. According to the info i can gather, 110-120bhp is attainable reliably from this engine with only a little more work (which could be done at the same time as a light rebuild). this would be fine as i'd just be after an easy, fun little car that was reliable - Am not after doing 0-60 in 2s and top at 190,000mph lol
I'd like (obviously) to be able to fit this engine into said kit car, but am struggling to imagine how i'm going to adapt it all so the FWD transverse layout Ka engine can fit into a RWD longitudinal kit car - shouldnt be difficult to mount it to the gearbox, being as i'd probably use a Mk2 Escort or Sierra gearbox
Just wondering if any of our fine OcUK members have kit cars, and can shed any tips or helpful info about doing such a job?
