Tell you what, I've never had Windows be so angry at me!

I disabled Spotify (SPOTIFY!!!) through MSCONFIG to stop it starting with Windows... and it now crashes on boot, with none of the normal restore options through the "repair Windows" working... I guess this underlines the importance of backups!!

Restored and works again already so can't complain  and it seems quicker than before! Joy

Never had Windows crash on me like that... ever... Backups FTW!

It seems quicker because your HDD fragmentation isn't the same state it was in post restore?

The same install of 7 Pro has been on my PC since launch and to this day has been error free. It's Overclocked on everything and hasn't bust a ball yet :p

I've got an SSD on it these days but it's seen 3 mobos, 2 HDDs and 2SSDs (all cloned over).

I don't use System restore anymore and opt for bi monthly System Images instead to a docked SATA drive \m/

Doesn't sound like a Windows issue, more like spotify ****ing something up.

Did you try booting into safe mode at all before restoring from backup?

I don't like using msconfig for this.

Look in the application settings for the option to disable on boot.

Or, open regedit and drill down to..

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

Then delete things you don't want. Only delete the things that you know.

Do the same in the CURRENT_USER tree
