I've got a wierd problem, I've noticed that occasional (every few hours) my connection drops, by drops I mean, my VM Hub stays online and my alienware laptop and my ipad (both on wireless) maintain connection

My PC however drops, I've ran a ping in the background and when the connection drops I get the following

PING: transmist failed. General Failure.

I get 7 of these before back and pinging correctly

obviously confirmed duplex and speeds

This PC is wired into my VM cable modem, the modem has been changed, the cat5 cable has been changed, the drivers for my Lan adapater (part of mobo) have been updated (i've tried rolling them back to the initial edition and right upto the latest version)

I've tried reinstalling the entire TCP stack and no dice

This has only happened since I bought a new mobo from OcUK its a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3

I'm pulling my hair out here, any tips? I'm considering getting a stand a long network adapater to test to see if it is the mobo or not

thanks in advance

James

Protocol stack's fine then, which makes it more interesting. :p.

How long's the cable? Does it run past anything that could cause intermittent interference (some sort of electrical device coming on next to the cable)?

Change the Laptop temporarily over to wired as well, see if that suffers the random drop. (Could be the router).

its the VM hub, and i've had it changed, the wireless works fine, so it could only be the switch ports in the back, but as I say, I've tried all 4 ports and then had the thing changed

got a NIC form ******s for a fiver yesterday, hasn't happened since, looks like the NIC on the mobo is knackered, best give OCuK a call and find out about support :(
