Just had a letter through for going 36 in a 30 as spotted by a mobile speed van.

Any idea what I'm likely to get for this? I was thinking fine and 3 points but my mate said he knows someone who had to go to this meeting and watch some sort of video and they got away with a warning.

Got to fill out the letter and send it off to them first but has anyone got done by one before? What did you get?

Cheers :)

You may get away with having the option to do a speed awareness course, but they cost around £100. If given the choice, I'd take the speed awareness course, extra £40 and not have to worry about 3 points.

I too have just got a letter through the post for doing 36 in a 30, though by a fixed speeding camera.

Anyone know if given the option to take a speed awareness course, can you take it at a centre in the county you live in, as opposed to the place where you committed the offence ?

Don't fancy driving all the way to Dorset to be told im a silly boy.

Where abouts? I know they were due to be on Doncaster road this/last week.

Thats bloody ridiculous. 6mph over yet bikers still are allowed to weave between traffic. boils my ****.

What? Get a grip.

To the OP: South Yorkshire wouldn't give a speed awareness course to me, and I was done doing 47 in a 40. You're looking at 3 points and £60.

Slightly OT, do you have to tell your insurance company if you've been done for speeding but elected to do the course rather than take the points ??

Good point. It would be kind of ridiculous if you didn't.

Is the speed awareness course something you should apply to be considered for ? or do they just automatically tell you if its an option or not ?

They did to me, 37 in a 30. Offence was in Rotherham but i'm pretty sure SYP offer the course in Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield.

No

You'll either be offered the speed awareness course or not - they don't have to offer it to you.
As far as I know if you are offered it you do actually have to take it in the county where you were caught.

My course was £60 plus a £1 booking fee.

On way to Birdwell, it was parked slightly before the stationary speed camera (as you come up the hill) next to the Cutting Edge pub.

Thanks for all the replies guys :)
