Got e2180 - Is there anything i need to know ?

quick question to all you clever people

just got my e2180 today, and is the first dual core chip,. infact,. my first intel chip ever (to my knowledge!), and was wondering if there is anything i need to know regarding the dual core part,. in relation to software, games etc ? or any other useful info.

Oh, it means you can run a 64bit OS but thats about the only thing

All you need to know is that your software, games etc are going to run a lot faster now

Just make sure that you overclock it, at least to 3Ghz

Then sit back and enjoy...!!!!

I just got one of these today with a Gigabye P35 MB and 8800 Gt Gfk. I wenn from an opteron 165/x1950 to this and 3d mark 2006 went from 4,900 to 11,000. For a net spend of 120 quid I am pretty happy.

I sold, or am in the process of selling, my old opteron/mb/memory/gfx and 120 quid and got and e2180/2 gb memory/8800gt/gigabyt mb.

.. Ok, I also had a spare opteron.

3d Mark 2006 from 4,500 ish to a short 11,000.

im really surprised at the difference this chip and the really good timing ram i got also 2gig. i tried the crysis demo on my old setup,. a64 3200 , 1gig ram, 7900gs card, and it was pants,. it selected its optimal settings as low on everything. this time with new e2180 and 2gig much faster ram,. same vid-card,. it selects all medium settings, and i can actually play the demo now !.. so even with just this upgrade i can feel it already, and ive not even got onto overclocking yet... if i go there that is haha

How does having a dual core allow you to run a 64bit os?

I would have thought having a 64bit cpu would allow you to run the 64bit os, like all athlon 64's... single or dual core.
