Got an interview offer for job with salary significantly below what I think I should be getting. About 10% worse than my self-declared minimum.

But been out of work for a few months and the interviews/offers are hardly flowing in .. (incidentally day to day money isn't a problem have good savings so I'm not desperate).

Would you:

1) Just go to the interview and pretend everything is hunky dory, you can talk about/negotiate wages over the phone later if offered the role, once they know they want you?
2) Go to the interview and say in interview (diplomatically) the wage is too low I want more have a think about that ..
3) Call the agent in advance and say you don't want to waste anyone's time and what your expectation of rate is. Probably have interview cancelled but if not it's a tricky subject dealt with in advance ...
4) Get job. Take job at rubbish wage. Keep job hunting, if you get a job 6 weeks later on decent wage 'er .. thanks for the job, I'm outta here fools!' otherwise reluctantly take home the little amount you get (!!)
5) Something else I haven't thought of (or just write something silly :) )

??

What would you do?

Personally I'd always go for this. It's better to be earning than not.

That's not to say I'd take a gawd-awful job, I probably wouldn't. But if the job is OK it's just not paying quite as much as I'd like - I'd take it and then keep looking.

Go to the interview, tell them you like the job but it doesn't pay enough, can they increase?

If not, walk out the door.

You lose nothing by interviewing and if you impress are ina decent position to negotiate up. If you are offered it even at the worng rate, it's better to be in the market than not at the current time methinks.

4 then jack when you get a better offer

So many firms are offering low renumeration when things pick up they'll be a massive move in labour force, I think the average is £16k to lay someone off then rehire the same level so offering very low is a false economy

Take the job and continue to look for a higher paying job.

Having a lower paying job is better than no job at all...

Most interviews will ask what your salary expectations are anyway so bring it up then, bearing in mind what they are offering. Balls in their court then, they can either make you an offer for what you want or offer what they already were. Assuming they make you an offer at all...

You haven't got a job and you are asking.

why waste your savings and it does not look good to have blank parts on your CV.

Rule number one when recieving a job offer

Never accept the first offer, as its more than likley the recruitment agency pocketing the rest of your money.

Never be shy in asking for 2-3K more than what they are offering.

What is your self-declared minimum based on? Is it an objective standard, based on what other companies are paying for someone like you?

1). Nothing stops you negotiating once you have their interest. If you value yourself at more than what is being offered then fight for it. If they don't budge then you can try and opt for option 4. Companies won't throw you out of the door for trying to secure a competitive wage; not a good company at least.
