Ok

My system

E8600 @ 4ghz
4gb ocz @ 1066mhz
Asus P5Q pro
Powercolour 4870 1gb
Corsair 620w modular psu
20" 1680*1050 samsung monitor

From what I have read, others are running crysis maxed out with systems less powerful than mine.
I am running it on high (not highest) with only 4 AA and sometimes I am getting random lag spikes, wasnt that anooying untill the last level but then it just got stupid. game even froze and stopped responding at one point!

Any ideas?
(got the newest gfx drivers)

Try it without the AA. Similar to far-cry 2, the grass and folage looks pretty much the same with or without AA, It's only buildings which look jagged and they probably only make up about 5% of the scenery. Getting a much higher frame rate should more than make up for it.

Untill we have systems that can run crysis perfect, this is a good compromise.

Yeah I was getting some massive freezing and slowdown on the final level - thought it had crashed a few times.

Also, people always seem to lie about how well their systems run that game.

an e8600 and 4870 can max the settings out at 1680x1050 - I maxed it out with pretty much the same spec.

The problem is the 4xAA. As suggested earlier, either use no AA, or EdgeDetect AA.

you running on dx9 or 10 i found x10 to be a massive resource hog for crysis running on dx9 almost doubled my framerate now getting 40-50 fps eveything on high min framerate of about 30, 1680-1050 no aa. still looks awesome. dx10 would frequently drop below 30 and give me lag spikes whether i was on high or very high.

Well I am just heading to bed now but I will try again tomorrow with no AA, I presumed it would look pish without AA on lol.

Oh, from what I read when I built my pc it was going to handle it maxed out on EVERYTHING and still have the power to make it look easy :(
Apparently I was lied to

Crysis is a poorly coded heap of a game, so I wouldnt worry too much. Good fun to play though

i get around 30 - 35FPS in my system with custom settings, DX10 and streaming disabled completely (not just texture streaming), also precache just about everything, the result is it takes longer to load levels but theres less slowdown while playing the level, seems like a good deal to me :) you can do some other stuff to assist performance too like activate the culling of hidden objects. no point rendering something you can't see is there :p
