Hey everyone, sold all of my old PC parts for £250 with my current gfx card, but tihs means ill be in need of a new one...just wondering what you thing I should do with hte money? Here are my choices...

1/ Add abit of my own money and get a 8800 GTS?

2/ Buy X1950 Pro and get another 1GB Geil ram saving me some cash

3/ but X1950 XT and get another 1GB Geil ram but again using my own cash

Or, any other ways you can think I can spend it :)

Thanks Everyone

Si

You can give me it if you dont know what to do with it. :D

Id probably say get another gig of ram and save up for 8800 card cos atm your card aint too bad to be honest and im not sure but i dont think you will see massive difference from 7800gt to 1900 series. Maybe a nice small increase but not worth the money for that amount of what it will do. On the other hand a 8800 will give you a better boost for the money.

Sounds like a fair comment, might keep that in mind. Will i see much increase with just another gig of ram? also will tihs mean i can overclock further?

Well some games like bf2 likes 2gb. So up to you in that regards. Tho these days its a safe bet that 2gb will be a common amount with a conroe and 8800 system.

Cool well tahts good because i play loads of BF2 and just bought BF2142 so another gig might be a good shout. Guess once I get it I can always see if i can squeeze anymore out of my CPU :) But I still need a graphics card remember...Sold that aswell :p

Ah k. lol. Well its up to you but a x1950pro is a nice card it should run almost any game high detail tho probably not in the high res dept compared to the xt etc type cards. Its cheap and can be a good stop gap while you keep saving for that 8800 card as im sure you can sell the x1950pro later for near full askin price anyhow of say about 100 quid ish.

Is there any particular brand of X1950 Pro that is best? ive been looking at the HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (H195PRQT256DD-R) but theres also some that are abit cheaper (Sapphire) and some a little more expensive (Sapphire Ultimate) which one?

Since your on pci-e id say go with the sapphire ultimate as it has the best cooler the zalman one. And im sure it beats the his cooler. Its also clocked better on the ram the sapphire ultimate.

Although you have to consider the HiS cooler is good as well, just not as good perhaps. Due to it exhausting hot air out of the case with its enclosed cooling system. Will also keep case temps down by pulling in the warm air from case and blowing it out of the exhaust slot.

Agreed, and with the extra Gb of Ram your sorted for a good while yet, so you can save up for a much better card than the GTS. :)

I wouldn't bother upgrading to anything below an X1950XT.

Get an extra 1GB RAM and get an 8800GTS later on.

Doesn't have to get a GTS though, as the x1950 will last ages yet, so by the time he needs to upgrade again the GTS will be ancient, and have been well surpassed by umpteen faster/better cards. :)

Possibly, it depends on how long it takes to save the cash. By all means, the X1950 is still a very fast card. But definitely add ram or it will be wasted because modern games need 2GB for highest settings.

Think im just gonna get a X1950 Pro and extra gig. I NEED a graphics card, its not as if im just swapping it over and can hold out for ages...its either a X1950 Pro or some other graphics card for £140.

For £20 more you can get the X1950XT, I'd say it was more than worth it. ;)

But he said he plays BF2 etc which he would benefit most from a extra gig of ram and the x1950 pro will be fine as a temp card till he gets half the money for a 8800 card and sells the x1950 pro later for the rest.

Tho if he can manage with 1gb then i supose go for the xt version and save up for some ram later. Tho entierly depends if you intend to keep the card for long. As if your not keeping it long then chances are you can sell it for almost new price in a few months time. This will go down in value as time goes on. And with the xt you may be tempted to keep it instead of going 8800 route later. If you so felt inclined to.
