I wouldn't advise getting a cheapo-chinese bike from my experience with a TMEC it was poorly built, the exhaust rusted quickly and when the chain snapped a day after purchasing it (it was only one year old!) it was difficult to find somewhere which could replace and fit it/touch it. The last point is what really put me off them as a Yamaha/Honda etc have widely available replacement parts.
Depending on how long you plan to take to do your DAS I wouldn't bother with a 125 if it's only going to be a 2/3 month wait. Unless you need it to get to school/work or about.
Once you ride the 500's you'll find them easier and better in just about every aspect. I passed my DAS last Wednesday and had my bike lined up which I've been riding all weekend 05 ZX6R 636, and it's a total animal.
As you're doing your DAS buying a 125 for a few months seems a little pointless unless you feel you need the practise & experience.
Car insurance renewal time has come around and I resent paying £1000+ for it so I kind of need something in the short time to commute on. Hopefully the short time should mean a minimal loss when reselling it though.
