Hey guys,

Well after learning for many months, I have got my practical test in over two weeks. any1 got tips on what I shud work on in which I do hope to past first time.

My driving is fine on road like roundabouts, bus lanes, mirrors/signal etc.
emergency stop and 3 point turn. Although im slightly anxious about the reverse parking into a driving space, Reverse round corner and parallel parking. which sometimes I don't get it into space.

Cheers

Just chill out, don't worry about it that much and try and enjoy it. There's no point worrying, you'll only be a worse driver. If you're a competent driver, then you'll pass. If you don't pass, it just means you're not ready.

Inb4 come onto the instructor.

If you think you've buggered up somewhere ignore it and move on, don't just give up as there will be a big chance you haven't buggered up but you certainly will if you give up.

You are allowed more than one attempt at doing a manoever. If you have to parralell park and you do it wrong just say to the instructor, "i've done this wrong, but i'm going to give it another go", then line the car up again and give it another go, you'll only get a minor then.

It was a long time ago now but i still just remember my DT was the most nervous i've ever been. Thought i made some errors but passed.

I worried about the parking most too. Especially the parralel parking, which I was asked to do, and nailed it.

I'm not sure how that helps but yeah, it'll go a lot better than you think.

if you lock eyes with someone at the lights it means the race is on... don't worry the driving instructors have this all the time and allow it.

Real advice, check your mirror making the action of checking your mirrors very noticeable (You could be checking your mirrors all the time but if they cant see it or notice it they will mark you down). Get your driving instructor to take you down the most likely routes well in advance so you can work out the different speed limits. Take it easy. I was lucky as my grandad was a driving instructor but those were the two things that stuck in my head.

As long as your driving ability is ok and you have masters all the normal stuff like 3 point turns, parking etc just take it easy and of course good luck.

Brilliant, I will take those tips into account. the only thing I gave up sometimes was on the parking bits so I'll try attempting it. would it help if I stretch my head and look at the back windows at times over the left/right mirrors to be sure the examiner know?

thanks again guys :)

if you fail miserably, you weren't ready. this is a good thing.

if you fail through a chance stroke of bad luck, look at it as fate and not quite your time.

if you pass, stay away from me. :)

the best advice i can give is try and get a test around 10am where the traffic has cleared and you don't have too long in the day to dwell on it.

and remember you don't have to be perfect, just of a level where the instructor believes you are ready to progress on your own.

book a motorway lesson when you pass (if you haven't had one) and practice slip roads.

Dont over do it and take your eyes off the road for longer then you have only takes a spit second for something to go wrong. All you have to do is make the movement noticeable. Remember moving your eyes is normally enough to check your window mirror but the simple advice is just make a neck/head movement for wing mirrors and window mirror so that he can notice the moment. Ignore the fact that he will be marking a paper as your driving don't even look at that clipboard for a second.

Lol that won't bother me as Im very focused when driving most of the time :), oh yes and I have book it about 11:45am would tht b a good time. oh and is the pass plus worth gaining(think im stepping a lil too far hehe). edit: very useful tip thanks Duggan

I stalled twice and had 7 minors on my 2nd test but passed. As long as you stay in control of the car at all times, even if you stall, you should have no problem.

If you do pass, be safe on the roads, it take time to get experience, i am amazed i never crashed after my test at 18, 4 people in the car, bombing along, overtaking on narrow roads. Pretty silly.

Don't drive too slowly as it's annoying and shows you may not know the actual speed limit. An old friend of mine failed for this...

Drive gently as if you're trying not to wake someone up who is sleeping in the back.

Good luck ;)

I found doing my test in rush hour was good as stupid as it sounds. Tests are timed to a degree so if your stuck in traffic your limited on the amount of driving about you can do haha. But yeah if you have less people on the road the less can do wrong but you have more areas to drive through etc so its all swings and roundabouts or corners, straight lanes.... and roundabouts :D
