I am pleased so far especially after all the problems I have had that you can read about here:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18018712
Anyway theres a few things I will need advice about if thats ok.
Firstly this is the first genuine OS I have had since 2000, I dont know whether its a good idea to admit that here but sod it I had to pay £80 for this OS because I could not get hold of a 64bit OS myself and I wanted a genuine one anyway.
Anyway it says '1 day untill automatic activation or activate now?'
Shall I activate now? Also I have never used VIsta before, I bought my daughter a laptop with it on at CHristmas but I never use it.
Also I think something is on my PC stopping updates getting through or being installed as it could only install 23/25 updates and told me the reason was because either the MS server was full or I had software on the PC stopping it like SVCHOST or something. I have seen that process runing many times on XP.
The system has got a windows experience score of 5.9, is that good? I will do some graphics benchmarks and let you know.
Also although I have chosen either quadrophonic and 5.1 set up in sound I still cannot get audio out of all my speakers on my home theatre even though when I click on the 'test' button a example sound comes out of the 4 speakers.
I may put the Sounblaster Fatality soundcard in it which I bought from Overclockers last year! I am really familair with those settings in that see.
Sound like a proper noob but sod it....

Ok I will when I get back on it, I am currently on my old PC backing all the stuff up I wanna put on my new rig. This PC has 2 hard drives in it so I may just put all the stuff I wanna put on my new system on one hard drive and put the hard drive in my new system, can you see me having any probs doing it that way? Otherwise its gonna take about 20 odd DVDs.

LoL Plec...../.
Hey mate if I just put all my wanted stuff from my old system onto one of the HD's in it then put that HD in my new one can you see me having any probs doing that? I can't like but thought id see what others would say, it was put in my other XP pro rig and was formatted in that.

When you say your 'wanted stuff' do you mean just back up - such as music, pics, data etc? If you do, sure - it will be no probelm at all. The pc will just pic it up as a 2nd HDD and you'll be able to access the data...

Yes thats all I meant Plec, just folders basically with all my I phone stuff on it and my music, pics and films and installs.

You'll have no problems at all then. Copy the DATA to the 2nd HDD and you'll be able to acces the data via the OS. You'll have to direct your media center to the music folder etc so it pics up your music/film files etc - but that's about as difficult as it gets.

Sound, yeh tbh thats all I did with this HD in the first place about a year ago. My mate gave me it, its only a 120gig and I just popped it in this system with the present 180gig and put all my films and boxing on it for storage.
Its just that I have not used Vista before and I am also paranoid about messing this PC up that I have just paid a grand for!
Thanks though mate.

Another thing which I thought was odd was that the lads at OCuk seem to have installed the drivers for me but when I got the system I still had to complete the Vista installation with the language and serials keys etc....
Wouldnt all that come well before putting any drivers in? The graphics and sound drivers and mobo seem to be in anyway.
Also anyone know the path to where your 'favorites' go in Vista?I normally just copy over the 'gold star' icon in XP to keep all my favorite web sites....

I am having problems putting this hard dirve in. It doesnt just pick it up like it did in XP, in fact the system does not boot up at all. It just boots to the black device screen and stays there saying at the top'Verifying DMI data' or something.
It just seems strange as I did not have to do anything in the bios or that when I put this drive in my XP system.
When I put the HD I used a extender cable so as not to stretch anything, the only thing I can think of is its not getting the power for some reason? Would that happen if this was the case, like it would stay on that black screen saying verifying DMI etc....
Maybe its not getting the power? I mean what would happen if you connected a HD with S-ATA cable but no power lead in?
See all the cables were tied back so I just used another cable from my modular HYPER typeR PSU and tagged it on the end of one from this Corsair and just plugged that in.

Anyone got any ideas?
I need to sort this out as I dont want to be putting 80+ gig of data from my old system onto my new system with DVD discs....it will take a lifetime!

Gabe, unplug the sata cable, boot the machine then plug the sata cable back into the drive and do a hardware detect.
It should find the drive and be usable.

Ok I am on the Goliath machine now, I have disconnected the problem HD with all my wanted data on it and it boots fine.
Are you suggesting I just plug in the power and sata cable in now whilst the thing is powered up and in action?

It sounds like your new system is trying to boot from the second drive. You may need to go into the bios and set the correct boot drive.

I have put it back on my old PC now and decided to just use a USB storage device to transport all the files onto my new PC.
I have chosen atm to just use 4 DVD dics to get the main stuff on and I will buy a 16gig USB flash tomorrow for 20quid.
I am having the same issue as another reader was having that I read about in this form last week and that is everything seems ok now operation wise although I have GTA4 here which I have not yet installed BUT when I was transferring some data form my old system from DVD discs it said it was going to take 44 minutes to complete. It did not take this long but still it was only 2.4 gig of data ffs, on my old system that wouold take a minute tops....

Ah well I did buy the 16gig stick and put my data on that way but I am not really impressed with its performance.
I have installed GTA4 on it and sometimes the road just dissapears and is just a white blank and its a bit laggy.
I also have a windows score of 5 and my mates Dell XPS machine he bought last year gets 7!
I dont know, somethings not quite right I might strip it down again and start again from scratch the way I normally do and see what happens then, trouble is I dont really have the time which is why I bought the full build in the first place!
Any ideas?

I am getting a 5.9 for my processors calculations per second....is that right for a overclocked i7?
As I said my mates Dell gets an all round 7.8 and my GTA4 game is laggy too. At first I thought of maybe theres some 32bit software but then it wouldnt work at all with that would it?

Windows scores dont meen jack, ignore it.
My overclocked e2180 gets 5.8 for lords sake, lol.
