Got tickets?

The men's RR starts at 10am so I'd imagine the roads must be closed pretty early on, but not sure where you'd find out exactly what time. It's a Saturday so no worries about commuters so it may well be closed from 6am or something.

The finish will certainly be closed by 9/10am so you'll probably be able to walk or cycle the final third easily enough unless there's a "no cycling the route" rule.

Edit: Just remembered it's a loop so you'll definitely be able to cycle the final third. If the gather is at Hampton Court or Richmond Park then you could watch them go past, cycle the route back and then either find a spot near the finish or anywhere else.

Right, got the closures: http://www.gosurrey.info/olympic-road-cycling/road-closures/

Road Race - Saturday 28 July

• the section of the Road Race route through Surrey from Hampton Court down to Box Hill (including the Box Hill loop) will close from 4am.

• the section after Box Hill through Leatherhead and Esher back up to Hampton Court will close from 6am.

Time Trial rehearsal - Tuesday 31 July

• a rehearsal for the Time Trial will involve rolling road closures between 10am - 11.30am.

Time Trial - Wednesday 1 August

• initial closures will be in place for the Time Trial in Elmbridge from 5.30am, but some local access will be allowed until 9am.

No info on whether the roads will be open to pedestrians and cyclists though.

During the test event they were only allowing people to cross in certain areas (at least where there were barriers in place for most of the main London area). They had Marshals managing such points and spread out along the route.
Given that this is the Olympics and they want to make sure there are no hiccups, I can't imagine they will let anyone cycle along the route once the closure is in place.

I managed to get a ticket for the final track cycling session, so I was quite chuffed about that. Slightly annoying that I could only get the one ticket though, so will be going on my own.
Also got a ticket to go up the Orbit while I'm there.

I think the incident with guy during the Boat Race has probably made them think twice about letting anyone potentially cause problems, so that's why I think they will be quite anal about it.

I'm sure there will be even more Police involved this time too.
The Road Races are going to cause the most amount of road disturbance during the entire Olympics, I remember many motorists were up in arms about it last time, despite it being a Sunday.

Got two tickets:

Athletics - 09 AUGUST 2012 18:30

Men's Triple Jump - Final
Women's 800m - Semi-finals
Men's 800m - Final
Women's 4 x 100m Relay - Round 1
Men's 200m - Final
Women's Javelin Throw - Final

Football - 11 AUGUST 2012 15:00

Final - Gold Medel Match

I applied for four and got two.

During the test event there were barrier up all round Hampton Court but further down the road through Walton and Weybridge there were no barriers and you could cross and cycle (a group of Kingston Wheelers came through about 5 mins ahead of the race and got a huge cheer) but there were marshals making sure folks were just crossing.

Amazingly, despite applying for a number of cheaper, less prestigious tickets, I managed to get a pair for the men's boxing finals. Fly, Light, Welter, Light Heavy and Super Heavy. Despite this I'm still kind of annoyed at how the ticketing was handled, but psyched that I get to see something pretty awesome. Looking forward to it. :)

I'm going to one of the track cycling days and I'm quite pleased with that but I recently thought I'd apply for some of the boxing tickets where they apparently still had some for sale at a lower category (I'm presuming that the option to select a certain category means they exist) and go through all the process before being told that there are none left. Is it really that hard to remove the option when it's no longer available? For what it matters I tried for the same tickets a couple of days later and the option still hadn't been removed.

I might still see if there are any other events available, the only real issue from my point of view is that I'll probably be paying more to watch an event that I'm less interested in that I am to watch my first choice.
