JoWooD sent out a press release announcing that the fourth installment in the Gothic series will be developed for PC and console with various prospective development studios:
Liezen, Austria, May 22nd 2007; JoWooD confirms having been in promising negotiatons for the development of Gothic 4 on PC and console with various prospective development studios. Releasing Gothic 4 on current-gen console is the next logical step for the Publisher's strategy. JoWooD puts most of its focus on high quality standards as well as reacting to the communities comments and requests for the sequel to its flag-ship title.

Since Pluto 13 and JoWooD have not come to terms regarding the development of Gothic 4, the collaboration has come to an end.

When it was first released half the people I knew that bought it was completely unable to play it because of bugs, juttering, crashing, 30 minute loading times etc etc. I personally had ~5fps on low settings 800x600 with huge amounts of juttering.

As said above though theres been a ton of patches now. :p

Tried running it on my old Sempron 2800, 1gb RAM and an AGP X700. Less than 1fps. Recently built a new machine (in sig) and it runs very well. Even in Vista 64. Crashes now and then, usually on saving but doesn't really bother me that much.

I only ever played Gothic 1 and I loved it. Never got round to playing any of the others. Are they worth a pick up ?

Awseome - can't wait - played 2 and 3 and loved them both - 3 is perfectly fine now (was from the 1st patch on) - you just have to follow the guide to optimize the game for your machine - I actually like the fact that you can set the quality to suit your machine without relying on the puny controls many games give you - a bit like Stalker really - Awesome game if you are willing to put in the time tweaking it :D
