PCI and socket 939 there so you can easily upgrade. I have also assumed you already have a legitimate copy of windows :) You could also afford a slightly better motherboard there, that one is pretty much as cheap as you can get.

Hard disks come in 40GB, 80GB, the odd 120GB, 160GB, 200GB... & so on.

Anyway, here's what i could come up with:
  • AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3000BPBOX) (CP-117-AM) £61.95
  • OcUK Value 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 184pin DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit (MY-004-OK) £47.95
  • XFX GeForce 7600 GS 256MB DDR2 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (PVT73P-UDL3) (GX-080-XF) £74.95
  • NEC ND3550 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM (CD-035-NE) £19.95
  • Antec SLK3800BUK Black Quiet Midi Tower Case - 400W SmartPower PSU (CA-048-AN) £51.95
  • Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 120GB 1200JS SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-055-WD) £38.95
  • Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-002-AK) £36.95
  • Subtotal £332.65
  • Shipping (City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)) £9.95

  • Total £402.56

that sounds good. i have been updated on the situation and now been told do not need a PSU or Case, if that makes life easier,
It does, but not for you or whoever's doing the build :p That's because whateva PSU you've got should be able to handle, so say 350Ws and above & not a cheapo one! The case also should have good air flow, etc to aid in cooling the componets & can take an ATX motherboard like the one i've listed :D

ok, the psu interests me cos i posted my rig on here a while ago and nobody has said mine was cheap...can i just get someone's opinion cos i didnt pay much for its Sumvision 400w ATX PSU

Sumvision, never heard of them  And that’s not enough info to go by. On the side of the PSU there should be a sticker like this. All those readings are what you need to provide, e.g (from mine):
  • +3.3V ~ 28A
  • +5V ~ 28A
  • +12V ~ 18A

A good & not necessarily expensive PSU has good amps on the rails above, is built better, etc all ensuring your PC runs smoothly and in case of any power problems (surges, spikes, etc) it doesn't blow and if it does, doesn't take out the whole PC (search Q-Tec here and read the horror stories)

  • Enermax Noisetaker 370W EG375AX-VE(G) SFMA ATX2.0 PSU (CA-005-EN) £39.89 incl. VAT
Best + closest to your budget I could find :( If you really need 400w (& for that you can check here), then you'll have to raise your budget.

Find more info on the above here & here

EDIT: Or maybe these might be better (trustworthy, etc) than what you've got:
