Government drops website blocking

Given that the government is essentially saying the law was badly drafted so they'll let the MPA gain injunctions for itself, it's more of a format shift of its own than any kind of move towards rescinding the idea.

My personal beef with this act wasn't so much the idea behind it, but the ludicrously hasty manner in which it was passed through with no real thought - thus my woot :)

I would have voted to have them blocked but the general public has no say in anything.

Do you not thinking that putting the power to block websites in the hands of the government has the potential to get a little dangerous? Specifically websites which aren't technically breaking any laws.

I can't get over this. They should have gone with the blocking of pirate websites.

They still can and will be blocked, its simply been removed from the Digital Economy Act because legally the power to block them is already in place so its not needed

Yes of course

By the way, my uncle's motorcycle shop has been repeatedly burgled :( Do you know any way of solving this problem? I was thinking of telling him to take his ads out of the local paper, or even better just shut down the paper.

It's not in the hands of the government, it's in the hands of the courts.

Camera systems to catch the people doing it. That has nothing to do with blocking websites or even comes close.

Of course it does.... you're supporting the idea that media saying where something is should be removed from circulation.

Oh, and how about a camera on the internet to catch people uploading copyright material? You know, a bit like some (most/all?) ISPs currently monitor traffic.

Funny how this story will have advertised piracy and made people aware of it. I didn't even know of that site. Whilst I do use newsgroups for downloads, i've never visited that site. (until now :p)

So your uncle is advertising in the paper when the shop is empty, how to bypass any security and the best way to gain entry?

If thats the case then yes, he should really stop the adverts. And if it isnt him advertising this fact but someone is publishing it then should he not fight to get that closed down?

You don't get it do you, this is piracy. Illegal theft of digital media. Yes, they should ban pirate websites and p2p sites at the top level.
