GoW - Can't install in Vista...

This close to snapping the DVD in half and binning it lol

Spent the last hour trying to get this installed, i'm running Vista Ult x64 + SP1.

I go to install the game, I select the drive and folder to install to, I click next and:

Now I did find this page:

Near the bottom of the first post it says:

(UN)Install problem

If you get any of the following Errors while (un)installing GEARS:

error number:0x80040702
Description:failure in file DLL:FirewallInstallHelper

Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: SetupHelper.DecompressFileToFile

Error Number: 0x80040702
Description: Failed to Load DLL: EULA

Look for the following files on the GEARS DVD:

FirewallInstallHelper.dll
GameuxInstallHelper.dll
setuphelper.dll
EULA.dll

...and copy them to \Windows\system32\

This should resolve your (un)install problem.

I can assure you it doesn't!!!

So anyone else have any ideas how to get this most annoying game to install!

i got it installed on xp but its not that good anyway, seriously over-rated by the console community if you ask me

It installed fine here on vista64, iirc I had to right click the setup file and run as admin.

You will however be uninstalling it a hour later.

Got it working!

Had to install this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Then remove any reference to GoW.

Then install again.

Seems to be working now

No not really, its a game to be played in coop with a mate IMO. As a SP game I wasnt too bothered, but in coop with a mate its a good laugh, and a relatively good challenge whilst not being stupidly hard.

The multiplayer is where GoW really excels, however since it was such a failure on PC - the multiplayer is nowhere near as good as it is on the Xbox
