Thought it was worth getting a thread going for the season, so we can see who is doing well and might jump up to F1 soon.

The GP2 Asia series is no longer and the races are now in one series which mainly follow the F1 season.

First race is this weekend at Malaysia.

Yeah, but as far as I can tell only the 1st race of the season is on SSF1. The rest look to be on Sky Sports like before.

Good showing from the Brits. And lol at the gaps. Top 11 covered by 0.5 seconds. Top 20 by just over 1 second.

For those who don't know, Qualifying defines the grid for Saturdays Feature race, which includes a pit stop. The grid for Sundays sprint race (no pit stop) is decided by the finishing order of the feature race, but with the top 8 drivers reversed.

Heard of most of those teams but not of DAMS before, unless they were at the back before?

Yeah, with the single chassis formula of GP2 its not uncommon for teams to quickly jump up and down the grid depending on the quality of their driver.

Should be some good racing with times that close.

LOL OMG *** Venezuela. This Serenelli guy is an insult to those with talent. I thought pay seats in F1 were bad, but this guy is taking it to a whole new level!

What a kick in the teeth for people with skill who struggle to pull together the funding.

Always been like that. Not just in motorsport either.

Not to this level though, the Venezuelan government have bought a whole team and then paid for him to have a seat in it, and he's completely useless. Never competed internationally, not race at all for the last 2 years. 2+ seconds off the pace and then refusing to get out of the way when being lapped meaning he screwed with a load of the front guys races. Its frankly embarrassing.

That's different to the likes of Narain Karthikeyan or Karun Chandhok how exactly? Did F1 go to Korea or China or the Middle East because it was actually popular there, or because commercial entities needed to sell their product? If you were watching F1 in 2005, the struggling Minardi let an Israeli by the name of Chanoch Nissany drive in a free practice session: he completed 1 lap, 18 seconds off the pace before spinning into the gravel.

In India's case, it had some fans that followed drivers like Michael Schumacher without needing a token Indian in the sport. No doubt the Indian GP was a great success for Tata and co as far as commercial aspects are concerned.

Of course money has fueled F1 forever, but I don't think any government has ever bought a team and than paid for a seat for a driver for a whole season of races with no skill or CV to justify his place on the grid.

And this is government funded too remember. To me its taken the whole pay seat thing too far.

I've never actually watched any GP2 races, however I'm watching the live race now while waiting for the F1 to start, and I have to say its bloody brilliant! Proper wheel to wheel racing with evenly matched cars. Fantastic to watch.
