GPRS / Tunneling?

I've recently bought a cheap laptop so that when I go away I still have access to documents and such for work, as well as internet access.

I am using my mobile (Samsung D600) as a Modem on the Laptop to provide GPRS mobile internet connectivity on O2. It's not the fastest but it's cheap and I can't be bothered to faff about with changing providers - so please dont tell me to change network provider.

Basically in order for the net to work, I've had to specify O2's proxy settings for the dial up connection. This works fine and I can access google, check my email via webmail etc and its fine in that respect.

HOWEVER.. Nothing seems to be able to access internet except IE which I specified the proxy settings in. I was thinking this could be down to the O2 proxy being very restrictive on ports etc. But my webmail is on port 2095 for example which is non-standard, and it can be accessed fine.

I need to be able to use MSN, Xfire (preferably) and also Putty so I am able to do any emergency admin work remotley.

I have poked about and don't know how to proceed with this, it seems that only IE or Web Traffic is allowed.

What do I need to overcome this barrier? I have looked into some free HTTP Tunneling apps and none have worked, or do I need a VPN/Hamachi or something? Im a total noob when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks for your help

All I can tell you is, for £7.50 theres a web bolt on, and if I connect my w610i to PC and use the SE software it connects to the internet and I can check websites, normal email and MSN

I have the bolt on :)

For IE to work etc on your pc or laptop did you need to specify any settings or your SE software did it all?

I did the connection manually and tried the Samsung software yet it only works in IE and I had to specify the proxy address in the settings.

TBH I installed the SE software click on it to open it, then selected to use the "mobileweb" user and then connect, then it says im connected @ 115kbps

Thats all I've ever done and all the normal (ie banking email downloads) all work

No proxys or anything

All i have on my phone is "o2 Mobileweb" "o2 WAP GPRS" and "o2 WAP GSM" I selected the mobile web one however i dont know the password/details as it cm with the phone (well a sms sent to the phone (iirc)

This site usually saves my bacon a few times a year.

Linky

At the moment I am using the "O2 GPRS settings (WAP)" Ones, that could be why I can only access Web Pages?

I changed the APN to mobile.o2.co.uk as per the "O2 GPRS settings (Email/Web)" settings with no joy - PPP Link Control protocol terminated.

Do I need to phone up O2 to get this enabled on my sim?

I'd guess so. I've never used O2 so can't be certain. I'm more clued up on T-Mob and Orange.

You on Contract or PAYG?
