Hi everyone

Right i think its time for a new Phone at the same time i want to get a GPS unit i was thinking about TOM TOM or Garmin but the other day at work one of the field engineers said that he would suggest getting a mobile with Gps as there nearly as good as GPS untis such as TOM TOM and Garmin, now this to me sounds a great ideal as i really need both a new phone and GPS as i am going to be traveling a lot and i hate road maps :D . Any Suggestion or possible bad points. Price isnt really an issue.

Cheers

No bad points that i can see dude apart from mobile phone battery life. I have a 6600 with tomtom mobile and it's great :).

MDA Vario. But like the Nokia, you'll need an external GPS receiver.

Or one of the HP iPAQ 65xx with inbuilt receiver.

Do you still need an external GPS receiver units with these phone's.

Yes, and even those phones are not that up to date now, N70 is not to bad. Basically any phone bought through a UK network will need a seperate GPS unit, but they start at around £40. I would sugest the SPV M600 (also known as the i-mate JAMin or Qtech S200) or the Nokia N80.

XDA mini S is what you want then, phone them and ask for it free (should get it free on £25 p/m and above). Whats your monthly spend?

Seems to be £49.99 on contract (benneh's looking for a free upgrade on a £38 ppm contract).

N80 wont run tomtom will it, as its running the latest version of symbian which wont run older symbian apps.

I'm running Tom Tom Navigator 5 on an o2 XDA Mini S. I'm using a solar powered bluetooth receiver (ebay). Works a treat, and never needs recharging. I just leave it in my front windscreen.

When the phone is turned on its side, it looks just like a proper tomtom unit.

More bad points, depending on the phone.
Display won't be as good as a purpose built satnav.
Lack of touchscreen.
Lack of volume.

The o2 XDA Mini S has a touchscreen and the display is roughly the same size as a normal tomtom unit.

None of the above points are true about tomtom on my MDA Vario.
