Me and the missus have just had a bit of a scare, she was out with our 7 year old daughter when some ******* pervert approached them and tried to grab our daughter from the trolley! Everyone is okay, my missus managed to keep her safe and raised the alarm and the freak ran off after a little boy on a scooter. Fortunately he was picked up and carted off by the police very quickly. Disabled or not if I'd have been there I'd have stoved his head in with my crutches.

We're all a bit shaken up, obviously. I'm now thinking of precautions incase something like this happens again.

I'm looking at live GPS trackers for my daughter, something like a watch. Do you guys have any recommendations?

Tile is an alternative to air tags.

Work pretty well, not sure if can get small enough to fit in a child's shoe mind.

What a sad world we live in, glad your daughters ok

We use a spacetalk adventurer 2 watch on my son as hes a bit of a runner and sometimes he needs to ask us questions during the day. Accurate enough via gps and has inbuilt messaging / vid call via the app or standard sms/phone via the sim. Needs a nanosim with data to work effectively.

I've never been a huge fan of apple but I'm due a phone upgrade and am tempted to get an I phone just so I can take advantage of Air tags! They seem like the best fit.

@BlizzardX That's a cool product but doesn't seem available in the UK, sadly.

Wierd as the app asks where you are located; I'm lumped in with Australia but the UK was a separate choice.

Looks like it was available but not... Shame as its been good for my son so far!

My nephew has just got a limited smart watch type phone/gps device for similar reason.

I do think it's a very good idea but I just wanted to add for consideration, should some freak kidnap them surely the first thing they do is dump the watch and shoes?

Short of subdermal implants I dunno what else to do :p

I'll ask them the make of the watch, I don't think it was cheap though.

AirTags has the largest network, full stop. Every iPhone, iPad, MacBook, even Mac (from an office as you walk pass) is another receiver point.

I had tile but you will get more updates on AirTag location much more often, much much more. For example, I can’t imagine Tiles would work that great on your travels to say……Thailand. But I would guess there would be more iPhone users.

Get a cheap used iPhone as your spare phone as the tracker if you don’t want to go in full hog into the Apple ecosystem.

I just got my 9yo an imoo z1 watch for her birthday last week because she just started wanting to go out with her friends in the streets next to my house. It's android based and uses a nano SIM which I got from Giffgaff for £7.50pm 1 month rolling contract.

Has 4g, GPS ect, she can call me or video call me ect and I can see where she is on a map in the app. Can only add numbers you set and no apps on it aside from some crappy built in ones. It does the job I wanted as she's been calling me before she goes out the door and wanting me to keep the call on while she's out! And I can see where she is. There's definitely better ones than the one I got for sure but I couldn't afford much more.

Airtag is good and all, but they can't contact you in an emergency or you them.

Hope your kids okay, that's scary and can easily cause long-term anxiety bless em.

Again, thanks for all the responses guys. The little one was pretty shook up, but both me and the missus are doing everything we can to acknowledge it but stick to the facts to reassure her, both of my daughters really, while not down playing it. I don't want this to be something that changes the course of her entire life. Be security conscious, sure. Developing an irrational level of fear, absolutely no!

My missus, who already suffers with anxiety, is really struggling. She's keeping it together though. I'm so proud of her, and keep telling her that, for how she handled it. Me, well it's scared the **** out of me, but again I'm having to keep focus on the facts. If I didn't, well I won't say what my response would be along the lines of.

@Fiocca that sounds good, does it do live tracking?

Can I also ask, what other options you looked at?

airtags announce they are near by to randomers though, tile can be set to anti theft mode

Also not everyone is an apple user so alternatives would be good to hear.

OP I can't believe what happened.

I hope you're all ok. I dread to think what I'd do if I caught someone doing that. Has the police caught the person?
