Picked up a used 7950 for my second machine.
System refuses to boot. With the card installed, it gives one long beep and 3 beeps for no vga and the red light by the pcie socket comes on along with the led for boot device error.
According to Asus that is VGA error.
The system it's in is not new, it's a rev1 Sabertooth 990fx on the latest bios (1604). The 7950 and board aren't that far apart in years and I've seen people say they use newer cards on this board. Also most reporting that cards aren't working seem to report just a black screen, not the vga error beeps.
Put the old 5850 back in and it's fine.
PSU in the machine is a Bequiet purepower 9 500W silver. I would think that is enough to power a 7950.
Any ideas? I do have a much newer machine I can test in (my main system), but it's a ton of hassle to wrestle the 290 vapor-x out, so thought I'd ask before I go down that route.
Thanks.
