First of all sorry it's not another "NEW GPU OUT SOON" thread

Anyway cutting to the chase (or cake?), issues began when I got a grey screen with horizontal bars, I thought nothing of it so restarted PC and bob's your uncle (or not)

Next day same thing happened and I wasn't so fortunate (sorry bob!), with fans spinning but no display and 62/b2 error code on motherboard.

I thought it might be something to do with OC settings in BIOS so cleared CMOS and I could boot up again except I decided to be silly and load up OC profile, which led to bob not booting again.

Anyhow it's definitely not to do with that as since then I have cleared the CMOS numerous time and also re-inserted(woot) the battery.

Today ran memtest and no errors there with the memory, also tried RAM in different slots etc.

So what I have tried is disconnecting PCIe power plugs from GPU and then trying onboard GPU which works, however with plugs connected even onboard doesn't work.

Have tried the additional plug on mobo for GPU but to no avail. So what do you think ladies, is this a PSU issue or definitely dead GPU?

Have tried the DVI port on GPU and I can get a display at least but now with red bars, instead of gray, not sure either is to my liking though!

I'd downclock it first and overvolt it to see if you could fix it however it seems to be doing this at 2D clocks. Could the oven as you might get another 2 months out of it and upgrade to a new cheap card.

I take it you can't test the GPU in another rig?

If the onboard GPU work fine i would think the 7870 is probably past it, you have a good few years out of it judging by its type.

The RX 480 is out in a couple of weeks which should double your performance 'at least' for Sub £200.

What tools would I need to do that?

Yeah I have and it's probably time for an upgrade anyway!

Looking forward to seeing some RX 480 benchmarks it might well be the card I go for..

If you can get into windows MSI AfterBurner/Sapphire Trixx/AsusGPUTweak, either of those should let you do it, I'd go with Trixx first though as they seem best for allowing you to play with the volts.

No I can't get into windows unfortunately, I thought there'd be some tool to use before boot?

Hi so dismantling wasn't as hard as I thought just had to remove four screws!

Not quite balls but a few rectangles seem to be missing
