Hey,

Thinking of finally getting myself a new system come next week since I'm done with school forever.
Just a question, for gaming at 1920 by 1080 would a 6970 or 580 be a better choice. I'd like to think that the more expensive card is better (580), but I've seen some mixed reviews making me unsure which to buy.
Luckily my budget can cover either card, but spending less would be great.

So is the 580 worth the extra cash?

Both are good cards and the GTX 580 is certainly faster, however it really depends on how much you are willing to spend and the specs of the rest of the system.

When you say mixed reviews of the GTX 580, what do you mean? Most of the ones I have read complain that it is darn expensive, but it remains the fastest single-GPU card and reasonably quiet at load for such a powerful card.

You can get this gainward GTX 580 for £348 this week - which is a pretty nice deal for a GTX 580, but still almost £100 more than the cheapest HD 6970.

Well the rest of the build will look something like:
CPU: 2600k
Mobo: P67 Sabertooth
8Gb Ram
750w PSU
1gb HDD
128 SSD

Thus why I'm just trying to see if the extra money towards the 580 is gonna give me that much more performance, when the rest of the system is pretty high end, not that money is a limiting factor, just want to know from people's experiences/opinion in the matter.

hell if money aint a factor get a 6990 :D

Hmm think I'll throw in the towel and pay a bit more for a 580, seems to offer a bit more performance, cheers guys.

:P It's tempting but then I have to make up for that leap in the price by taking away the SSD, I'm sure the 580 will be fine anyway.
