I am getting a new rig very soon and its based around an E6600 and Asus P5W DH. I have a Dell 2405 and play primarily WoW and BF2. I would love to play at 1900x1200 at a good frame rate. Which card(s) would be ideal for this. No more than £300 ideally.

You could wait for 8800 card (due out tomorrow, as a matter of fact) but that will be £350+ for the GTS and £450+ for the GTX. Plus DX10 won't be around till Jan/Feb 2007.

If you're looking for decent framerates at that resolution along with decent amounts of eye candy then I'd suggest you try and up your budget to around £370. This will buy you a 8800GTS which is just faster than a 7950GX2 but it's a single GPU. An X1900XT will probally see you through at that resolution, but if you're wanting >60fps *** decent eye candy then you're looking at a GX2/8800GTS.

If upping the budget is an option even further then the 8800GTX is going to be £450+ and that will cope with that resolution easily with nice eye candy.

But if upping the budget isn't an option then I'd be looking at (as mentioned above) an X1900XT or a 7900GTO. Both have their pros and their cons but both are stonking cards.

I am in the same position as you are and I am waiting until tomorrow to see what happens to the prices.

Most likely I am going for the 7900GTO as it is nearly as fast (if not faster) as the X1900XT and also is silent and it costs £25 less :)

Also in the same position as you - have gone instead with the X1900 XT 512MB with an X2 cooler. I see this as an interim solution until I am convinced that the DX10 cards are sensibly priced and reasonable value in terms of cash for actual performance gains.

For the record, I went with X1900 XT rather than the 7900 GTO since I lean towards the Oblivion style game (where ATI have the edge), but would recommend checking out the reviews in Tom's or Anand to see which card better suits your gaming preference.
