Hi folks. Need a little advice about getting my PC ready for some gaming. 2 things...

1) I need to buy a graphics card. Looking to spend around the £100 mark, maybe a little more if it's worth it. I don't have the largest case in the world either so ideally it needs to be no longer than 260mm. More room is available if I remove an HDD bay but I 'm not sure that's really necessary with these smaller cards available. What would you recommend?

2) I also need a power lead for that same graphics card. I have a modular PSU but a few years back I left the power lead for the GPU lying around and the dog chewed it up. Yes, that really happened. I looked around for one not too long ago but couldn't find what I thought I was looking for. 8 pin plug both ends right? or 8 pin plug to a 6+2 plug??? Here's a pic of my GPU PSU socket:

Please mind the dust. Can you recommend a lead from anywhere please? Without it any GPU is gonna be useless!

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hello, best bet for a new cable would be to get in touch with the psu manufacturer, as unfortunately at the PSU end, just because a cable fits doesn't mean it works. iirc Jay of jayz2cents messed up a system in a recent video by using cables from the wrong power supply.

On a plus side a lot of circa £100 graphics cards (gt 1030, gtx 1050,1050ti,750ti RX 550,560) don't need supplementary power these days as they are efficient enough to run just on what they get out of the PCI slot.

That being said graphics card prices are still all over the place so might struggle to find one worth while in your budget.

Thanks for your reply Starshock & obitalwalsh. I have just submitted a support ticket to the PSU manufacturer. We'll see what they say.

Otherwise...

GTX 1050TI- £150-70 and doesn't require external power from psu lead

 good news! I didn't know this. That may be problem solved. When looking at the individual product specification I'm guessing when it says "Power Input: NA" this is what I'm looking for then?

Appreciate the help guys. I think my best bet for now is one of these motherboard powered cards. Especially considering what I'm willing to pay at the moment.

If a custom lead turns up I might well purchase it, thanks orbitalwalsh. If you find one please post a link but I've had a brief look around and can't find much.

Grazie
