GPU and motherboard Compatibility?

Hey

current motherboard is a

ASUSTeK Computer INC. Crosshair IV Formula

i am planning on buying the

Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Toxic OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Card

as my motherboard is few years old will it need a bios update and will this card work even though it has pci-e 3.0 as my motherboard is pci-e 2.0

hoping it will work straight out the box lol

Yeah it will work, will be very slightly bottlenecked but it should work very well BIOS update should just be done anyway, should help any problems you are having.

PCI-E is backwards compatible, not many boards make use of PCI-E 3.0 yet, and even then the different isn't much at all, card and board will work perfectly.
