Quick question, do GPU's ever come with power cables? Asking as i've sold a card to a guy and he was under the impression that a cable should have come with the card. The card, an RX 570 didn't come with any cables when it was bought.

I've briefly explained that to my understanding, most PSU's have proprietary cable systems and it wouldn't be practical for a GPU manufacturer to supply cables.

I've had single to double 8 pin splitter cables with cards before but nothing else.
 
It would be less practical for the GPU manufactures to ship cables that are compatible with all the different connector types used at the PSU end. Normally yes, the psu would have the cables required for at least one GPU.

What PSU is it?

Trying to find that out now, asked him to check the PSU directly and tell me what cables are there. I don't think he's massively tech savvy.

Not a bad shout, could pass it onto him then if he doesn't believe me. I've had multiples of the same card and know for sure it didn't have power cables supplied (ex dirty miner)
 
When I brought my sapphire nitro 390 it came with a molex to 8 pin adaptor but this was three years ago.

These are cheap as chips if he really wants one.

Did you list what was being sold with the card or mention card only? As that would have covered you
 
I've never known cards to come with any cables.
If his PSU doesn't have the right cables it suggests it might not be high enough spec to run the card.

Also as above, with modular or semi modulator PSUs there's probably an infinite number of proprietary sockets on the CPU's themselves.

Has the buyer explained why they think it's an issue?
 
Didn't specify the card came with a cable but buyer saw the card specs saying Power Connector 1x8 and thought it meant it came with a cable.

I'm just waiting for him to get back to me and let me know what cables the psu has.
 
My 290 came with molex to 8pin.

Palit jetstream 1070ti came with a 2x6pin to 8pin adapter.

Never seen anything other than those sorts of cables with a gpu.

All cards must come with a molex 6/8 pin most people have PSU with that cable that can be modulated and very easy to get from multiple sources online for adapter.
 
Some do, some don't. All my 1070ti I had for mining (zotac) had 8pin to dual 6 pin. 1080ti none. All depends on card and manufacturer I think.
 
Fella got back to me, he got a new modular psu installed and he's happy.

I bought a lot of gpus over the last year and only the Msi Vega 64 has any extra cables, none of the 570 or 580 had any across Sapphire, Gigabyte and Asus.
