GPU backplate question.

Hello all,

I am planning to buy the Koolance VID AR797 waterblock for the HD7970
(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-020-KA)

Koolance doesn't make a custom backplate to match this VGA block and I was wondering if it is technically possible to use any other backplate for the 7970 while using this VGA block?

I have asked the same question from Koolance regarding their 69x0 full cove block(some time ago). They told me ALL of their full cover blocks are made so that end users can use the stock back plate with them.

Thanks for the answer, but my 7970 does not have a backplate on its own, I was thinking of buying the Heatkiller GPU 79X0 backplate. My card is the XFX7970BEDD (first revision version that has stock pcb).

Oh dear, its an XFX gpu! You do realize you are going to void the warranty right?

Surely if you remove the original heatsink from any GPU you void the warranty because the manufacturer can no longer guarantee that it will work once removed

Not true!

Just ask EVGA
(and if you dont tell Gigabyte or MSI it will be fine as well)

I have a gigabyte 670 but I'd rather not risk 3yrs warranty to put water cooling in as the fans to an excellent job already and it would be for aesthetic looks only
