So when I upgrade my GPU's at somepoint in the future I was thinking about going down the water-cooling route.

My question is if I'm going to be using watercooling would I see any difference in buying a cheap reference card over a pricier reference one as they're the same card?

when watercooling, you want to buy a reference card for block compatibility reasons.

I usually go for Asus cards as they are priced well and have a 3 year warranty.

they have no warranty void stickers on the boards either so you can replace the stock cooler easily if required.

the point of watercooling is that it is supposed to make overclocking easier.

my 480 cards for example go from stock [700mhz] to 900+mhz easily. for a card that runs hot, it wouldnt be like that on air cooling.
