GPU BottleNeck?

Hey guys, Thanks for reading my thread, and the help in advance :)

My current specs:

Athlon 4400+ @ 2.3GHz (Stock)
2GB PNY 6400 800Mhz
Corsair TX 650
XFX 4670 1GB OC @ Mem:1200Mhz and i cant remeba, i think its like 715Mhz? and Its DDR2 btw,
My Mobo's An Acer Aspire M1201 and even acer dont know the mobo they put init, so im stumped there :P
320GB HDD,
Win XP Pro,

this monday im going to buy a MSI 560 ti Frozr, i know the CPU will bottleneck the card, and thats why when i get the money im buying THIS

Or proberably something different because by the time i can afford it there'll be better, newer deals on newer products,,

my question is, How much will my 560 Ti be bottleneck by the CPU??

By the new cpu? Not at all.

By the old one? Not so sure, its a dual core but it is very old and running at a slow speed. You could reduce the bottleneck by overclocking it?

Also, you'd be better off buying a GTX480 or a 2GB HD6950 for around the £200 price mark - both out-perform the GTX560Ti :)

Also #II, if its for gaming then an X6 isn't the best bet at all and you'd be better off going for SB (either pre-overclocked, or overclock it yourself and save <£100).
 
That Athlon will be a HUGE bottleneck. Seriously, the GPU will probably run at about a third of it's full power to keep up with the CPU.
 
yeah, thats the problem, :/ the mobo, being supplied from acer in a cheap desktop deal doesnt suppod OC'ing, software overclocking doesnt seem to work either, ive also looked really deeply into the 6950 and the 560 Ti, and the reviews mostly show that the 6950 is slightly better than the 560ti, but only at higher resolutions, otherwise the 560ti smashes the 6950 at lower res's and considering ive only got a 19" 1440x900, and i dont think im getting a new screen anytime soon, a 560 seems to be better, but only because of my screen resolution,, as for the cpu, ill hae enough for a new bundle in about 3-4months, which then i imagine will have new bundles for me,

will it be that bad? i know games arent EXTREMELY cpu dependant, but it'll bottleneck that much?

and i know what your thinking, im just some stupid kid who thinks he knows what he's doing, but the reason im buyin the card now is pretty much because of crysis 2 and if i have the card now, i can play my games at a better quality than my 4670 whilst i save up for my new mobo bundle, i was thinking of this

also when i get the bundle (in a few months time) the card will oveiously still be a great performer, so do you see my logic side of it?
 
Yeah, you're right there. At lower res' the 560Ti will be a better bet, and should you upgrade at some stage the 560Ti will still cope perfectly fine!

BD and maybe even Ivy-Bridge will be out in a few months, so it is definitely better to wait!

I'd be damned surprised if it was anywhere near that much tbh!

Hmmm, you can probs get a cheap 2nd hand board on the MM - lets you get a higher clock speed and hence less of a bottleneck.

yeah, it makes sense actually, i suppose ill buy the 560 Ti now, and carry on saving for Ivy Bridge and ill hopefully have around £600 for the mobo, cpu, ram etc, or even a £600 ivy bridge bundle, :P

hmm, maybe, i dont usually go for 2nd hand products unless from trusted stores with warrentyy, but as Cookeh said, maybe i should just buy the GPU and wait untill christmas for a ivy bridge bundle or buy the parts for it seperatley?
 
Would reduce the bottleneck, and sellers on here are very highly trusted and decent chaps.

I'd do my best to reduce bottleneck to the minimum and then save up asap :p
 
im not too sure about that yet, as if i save up until ivy bridge comes out, there wont be many boards that support it going 2nd hand, so i doubt i have many options with going for a 2nd hand deal, im pretty set on waiting until christmas for ivy bridge, what do you think?
 
I meant a second hand board for your Athlon ;) So you can overclock it and reduce the bottleneck as much as possible.

Definitely worth waiting at least for Bulldozer - Ivy is quite a way off and not heard much about it yet
 
ohh rightttt lol well yeall really depends on thhh, that definattley sounds like a good idea :O it thge money i have but if there are good cheap performance to price deals on bd ill get that, otherwise ill most likely wait for ivy,, :P thanks for the help :)))
