Right my system is what's listed in my sig, I'm looking at dumping crossfire from 2xmsi twin frozer 7950's to a single card, problem is I run triple screen 5760x1080 and I like my eye candy too So I'm going to need some grunt.
Most of the games I play just don't work as well with cross fire as I'd have liked, Bf4 is starting to get on my wick tbh, but others are okish.

What single card can provide the grunt that is greater than the pair of 7950's ( I do also overclock these @1150 core ) ?

Is my CPU still good for higher cards @4.4 core speeed ?

Look forward to your ideas, cheers !!

Edit: or do I persevere with crossfire o.0 ?

Firstly, the bad news - there isn't a single card out today that is more powerful than your overclocked 7950's. A 290X will almost match 2 x 7950's in most games, and a 780ti is closer, but neither actually quite has the grunt you have on offer.

Now, for the good news - AMDs support for crossfire and eyefinity is much improved in the current generation over the previous. I had 2 x 7970s before moving to 2 x 290s (not the 290X) and gaming at 5760x1080 is a much smoother experience for me, even when the FPS counter was showing the same figure. This was before the 14.1 driver that brought frame pacing improvements to 79xx cards and multi-screen. I also found the 290s were noticeably more powerful than the 7970s - to the point I could increase some graphics settings over the 7970s while maintaining FPS.

My advice would be to get a single 290/290X and see how performance is for you. If it's good enough, then brilliant, if not then save up and add a second 290/290X down the line and hopefully you'll find crossfire a better experience this generation.

The other option would be to get a 780TI. This will be quicker than a 290X in most games but with the cost difference and the performance hit on multi-screens generally hitting the current gen Nvidia cards harder than the AMD ones, this option is a hard sell for me personally and I'd stick with AMD for 5760x1080.

Appreciate the detailed response !!

I'll take a look at 290's I think i would prefer to stick with an Amd card again as i've been pretty impressed with them this time around.

What is your temps like with the 2x290's ? do they exhaust out of the case or inside ?

As you could imagine, a long gaming session with 2x7950's oc'd.... you can hear them =D

Thanks again for the reply !
