GPU Choice when Watercooling

Hi Guys,

So I'm planning a new build and will be looking to watercool. My question is, when you're looking at a GTX1080, it seems like the only real difference is the cooling of the card. All reach the same sort of performance within 1-3% so is there any difference between a £800 Strix version and a £550 OCUK version when I'm going to be doing all the cooling and overclocking myself?

Nope - no difference at the mo. Until (if) there's a bios editor for Pascal, all those extra power phases on the pricier cards are a waste. What you're paying for are fancy air coolers that can maintain higher clocks due to cooling with GPU Boost 3.0.

To be honest, even if you've got a 'bad' overclocker, it makes very little difference in-game with Pascal.

Just grab the cheapest 1080 you can get that you can buy a block for.

+1 I only got the EK MSI card cause I spotted it going for £600 brand new on the popular action site. Seller accepted £550 cash in hand. Couldn't resist at over £200 cheaper than most retailers.

That's a pretty awesome deal.
To be honest I cannot believe that we were complaining about 1080 prices on release date, I bet most people would give anything to see those prices back!

The only other thing you might factor in is buying one from a manufacturer who allows you to remove the cooler and keep your warranty like EVGA for example.
