GPU client help

Hi all

Just tried to set folding up on my 8800GTS.

I downloaded the V6 Beta GPU2 6.12 beta8, it installed fine, and when i try to run it, i get this error:

I've got the latest Nvidia drivers too.

Any ideas? I had a search for the error message, and the file, but none of the google results are anything to do with FAH

Thanks. Also, what SMP client is the one to use? I see people recommend the v5 5.91 release, but i cant find it anywhere!

Sorry I've not come across this problem myself. I know there are some people that have had this problem on the offical forums so its worth seeing what's there. Though reinstalling the drivers is a good suggestion.

I don't use the Windows SMP client, but it says here that the version is newer than 5.91.

Argh, not your day! Try uninstalling the SMP client and reinstalling it outside of the Program Files folder. Vista doesn't like programs which save data inside of Program Files.

As for the GPU, can you post the end of your log file with the error on it? (Right-click the F@H icon in the system tray > status > log file.)

Not come across that error before, but reading the folding forums, it looks like it might be something to do with drivers. Which version are your nVidia drivers?

I'm using the 175.19 drivers, pretty sure they are the current release ones. I've got the 175.16 drivers so i might try those.

Ahh, cracked it. You need a pre-release driver which supports the CUDA functionality that the GPU client uses. The newest official version is 177.35 - don't worry, it's fine for games too. F@H won't work with 175.xx.

Fahmon says about 5000ppd... that sound about right?

Still having trouble with the SMP client. I downloaded the "6.22 beta2 for MPICH (32-bit or 64-bit)" version.

The description says "Must run with -smp for smp mode". I assume this is in the config part of the client? It asked for additional parameters and i put in -smp. But i'm not getting SMP WU's

The older 5.91 SMP client was a lot easier, does anyone have a link for it anywhere?

Try editing your shortcut and putting -smp on the end of the path.

I have the feeling it expires pretty soon. It's not on the site any more. If you want to try it I can upload it somewhere, but I think you should be able to get the new version going.

If by having the -smp on the shortcut, will it not run in SMP mode if it's set as a service when the computer boots up? As it'll only be in SMP mode when it's ran through the shortcut?

edit: Just tried it, had to delete the work folder to so that it started a new WU, but it's doing SMP now

Glad it's working

Getting SMP to run as a service can be a bit tricky. To add the -smp flag you'll need to edit the service path in the registry. Open regedit, follow the path at the bottom of the screenshot and add -smp to the ImagePath:

Now, it won't work until you set the service to run under your username. Run services.msc from the Start menu. Find the Folding service, right click, click Properties and set it to run under your username like so:

That should hopefully do it
