Hello guys i bought a xfx 7870 le tahiti double d edition gpu( yes the name did make me laugh) for a really good price a while ago and I will still be using this card for at least a year or so and don't want to upgrade. The problem is that i did not really look at any reviews before I bought because it was that good of a deal. It runs really really hot around 90 degrees (i know i know that is really hot) but I tried to contact the seller to rma it and they said that it is working within its limits.

After a while I was really annoyed and sent xfx an email and they replied and stated that the safe limits of this card is 95 degrees and that the thermal throttling point was at 105 degrees (again I know it insanely hot and that i could use it as a cooker too). So being annoyed at myself for not looking at any reviews I am sadly stuck with this cooker of a gpu.

This is where my problem starts because i want to try and do anything I can to cool it. My case has good air flow gpu fan settings are on full when i game (head set on so don't care about the noise) I also invested in a side fan too but only changed the temps by a few degrees.

I was looking to put an after market cooler on it as a last resort and was looking at something like this

YOUR BASKET
1 x Prolimatech MK-26 Multi VGA Cooler £51.98
Total : £57.96 (includes shipping : £4.98).

Or the Artic Accelero Hybrid

Just the one I don't know nor can I find out whether my gpu has a reference pcb I have even looked on the ek website but my card is not even listed.

Please help to find out if this gpu is reference and i can buy that cooler or any other coolers that will fit on instead.

Thank you for your help!

I have the cooler master haf X case with the side panel off but I would still like to keep it cooler than it already is and maybe be able to oc it in the future

Every where I have seen reviews about the double d cooler they all slate it for being really bad.

Cheers for the advice I totally forgot about just changing the tim first maybe I will some improvement first before I shell out for something else.

Was the price you got it for so good that, when combined with the cost of the 3rd party cooler, it is still better VFM than a new card of a higher spec?

If not, it's kinda pointless.

I know it was a bad mistake buy with not enough money to rectify it what else can I do.

If your going to remove the heatsink fan anyway it might be worth just removing, cleaning up the gpu and reapplying some better thermal compound before spending a load on a new cooler

Done this and and it was insane how bad the tim was on there it was terrible. I put some arctic mx 2 and there is a thin layer and temps have drop buy more than 10 degrees.

I have over clocked the card to 1200 mhz a 200 mhz overclock and it still runs cooler than at stock lol.
