I've just started overclocking my 7800GTX and have managed to get it to 470/1300 (from stock 430/1200) and it looks to be stable and staying under 75C. However I've just thought that I really havent increased the mem clock value very much. Would I see a bigger performance increase by increasing the memclock rather than core clock or is it better ths way? Cheers.

I've now upped it to 470/1358. And its still running a few loops of 3dmark06 staying under 76C (Still cant crack 5000marks though 
) although I havent run it for a few hours on oblivion, will be doing that in an hour or too 
. What temps would you be comfortable with this card? I know it throttles at 115C but that seems like madness to me, I've got it in the yellow area a couple of times (80+) in the nvidia control panel and I tend to back off then. What are your thoughts? About right or push forward? Most of the review etc on the web seem to be around the 85 mark max so i'm tempted by that, that should test out how useful this new exhaust fan is

I think when I had my 7800GTX it would go into those yellow bars. Can't remember what what temps that correlates to now, but I think one or two bars into the yellow area is ok.
EDIT: Oh yeah, max my core would go was 475Mhz. 480Mhz was possible but some games showed artifacts.
After a couple of hours on oblivion...i'm not sure what the results are. The temps are fine, stayed below 70 the whole time. Didn't have any artifacts or graphical anomolies as such but twice the screen went black the HUD was still there though 
, I alt-tabbed out of and back into the game and this solved it. And a couple of times there were flashes of the apps running on my desktop flicking up (this used to happen ages ago old my old system which wasn't overclocked - I never usually have stuff on the desktop though so I cant really say if its odd). Do these sound like problems caused by the overclock or would you say it's something else? Thanks

So is the only kind of 'damage' you should see odd artifacts on screen? And to Iceshock and Chaparral was that on stock volts (can you even change it) and the PCI-e lock thingy in the bios set to 100 or did you alter something?

Anything I can do to continue cos my temps are still fine? Is it possible to change the voltage? Or what about the PCI-E frequency setting (currently at stock 100MHz) in BIOS?
It most likely be your limit for your card...I had a BFG 7800gtx before my leadtek ones and my BFG one would only go as high as 465 on the core before getting artifacts...mpledge52 said:
You could try lowering the memory clock and see if that will let you go a bit higher on the core,,Plus take the card out and check there no dust at all clogging up any of the heatsink/fan..
