GPU dead or something else?

Hi guys,

My system has decided to die and I'm fairly sure the gpu has died unless others can think otherwise.

I fired up Armed Assault 3 and once in game the gpu fan ramped right up to full (which is unusual) then the system went blank.
Attempted to restart to no avail.
The system starts, I get a single beep but no display and the gpu fan is at full constantly still.

I've tried reseating the gpu and changing the pci-e power cables to no avail.
Any further ideas to troubleshoot or is the gpu likely dead?

If so, what is a suitable replacement for a 7950?
(200 max).

No on board that I can use.

Tried removing battery as you said, still the same situation.

Tried all you mentioned, still the same.
Starts up, single post beep and gpu fan at max.

Up until now, mine has been solid even with an over clock.
Unfortunately I have no other systems to be able to test the gpu on.

Is there any other tests I can try to pin it down?

No I've not tried a volt meter, which pins would I need to check and what should the expected reading be?
I would be surprised if it's the PSU, my last one blew after 3+ years use.
The current replacement (XFX) is barely 6 months old.

I was right in the end, GPU had died.
Replaced with a VTX R9 280 and all is well.
