GPU dead?

Has my 980ti died? Went out earlier and put the machine to sleep, came back and fired up and got no response, constant boot loop but with no display.

Took the side off and the mobo debug code it gets stuck on is B2 which according to my manual is -- "console output/input devices/console initialization and load option ROM (VGA, RAID, parallel ports, serial ports) --

If I remove the GPU from the slot and reset CMOS and plug the display into the mobo it boots and works fine, if I plug in the GPU whilst windows is running it doesn't detect it or find it when I scan for hardware :(

Has it gone to the GPU pile in the sky?

You "shouldn't" really hot plug a GPU BTW and Windows won't normally find a GPU plugged in after it has booted.

If its running fine off the motherboard video output but doesn't work from the GPU does suggest the GPU has had it - make sure there are no loose power connections, etc.

I can't get to the BIOS now, I was going to try switching the default graphics to onboard, installing the GPU and then booting and try to have a play with things but I can't get into the BIOS for some reason.

Sounds to me like you have a mobo/bios issue. OR more likely to be.

Have you tried a different PCIE slot?

I would be tempted to flash the mobo bios to most recent version if you havent already.

Does the mobo have a backup bios you can flip over to? to test before flashing?

Just to see the first one has borked up?

She lives!

Not being able to open the mobo bios was a displayport issue, once I tried a HDMI cable it let me in.

The original problem may have been a GPU bios issue, I had been messing with it the other day but it had been running fine. Not sure if we had a power cut or something whilst I was out but it's sorted now. Flashed it back to the version I was using before and all is sweet again, phew!
