Hi guys,

I'm getting a nice paycheck at the end of the month, and decided I am going to treat myself to a much needed new GPU. Currently using a geforce 770 2gb with a 1440p monitor so most definitely in need of something better.

I was thinking of getting the 970 and go Sli in a few months time, or else maybe go for the 980 as a powerful single GPU option and save up a bit to go Sli as well. 980ti price is quite high at the moment, but if it really is worth it that might be an option as well. I would prefer to stick with Nvidia for some strange reason.

Currently using an i7 4820k on an Asrock Fatal1ty X79 Professional with 16gb quad channel RAM, so I was thinking why not use the board's power for Sli as from what I've heard it's pretty decent in games now.

Which would be the best option that would future proof me for another year or two? Really would like to max games graphics (I won't be changing system or monitor for quite a while yet)

Thanks

I've got the msi gaming and it is whisper quiet and mine does 1535 on stock voltage

The G1 has three 75mm fans, other triple fan models have 90mm and the msi has two 100mm fans... There's been lots of comments that the g1 is a bit whiny on anything above 60%

As everyone has already said the Ti is the 1440p king. IMO the 970 has a questionable amount of ram once you go for sli at 1440p, The 980 too, Where as the Ti has the extra 2 gb's allowing you too max settings in sli whenever possible. That will occasionally be an issue with 4 gb cards.

On OcUK's site out of 2 reviews for the g1, one of them mentioned something about coil whine. How bad is it? I get coil whine on my 770 under load and it can be quite annoying, I thought it was supposed to disappear after a while but it's still doing it.

I was thinking about the Zotac 980ti AMP extreme edition, but I've pretty much never heard of that brand before. So would be thinking about one of the main brands. Msi and Gigabyte are pretty darn good.

@ andybird123 Any coil whine on the Msi? And to reach those speeds, is it watercooled?

I'd go for the Zotac, It's got a 5 year warranty and it's got the fastest clocks available, (+ it's in stock tomorrow) I haven't owned a Zotac before but they seem to be decent cards and I have't seen any major issues/complaints being brought up about them. They seem to get decent reviews and they score well.

Wow quite a massive difference between the 970 and 980ti, especially with AA which is something I rarely get to use these days.

I most definitely will be getting the 980ti.

I am going to stick with Nvidia at the moment, no matter the performance and price difference compared to AMD, mainly due to driver support and image quality with films. Besides, with the fury x I don't think I have anymore room left in my case for the rad
