Heya, seem to have an issue with my GPU and not sure what the best course of action is..

It's an EVGA SSC and was running fine, however Dawn of War 2 has started playing up (and only DoW2). There lies the problem, it always happens with it, in some form or another.. however no other game causes any aggro. I do have issues with windows, with the 'nvlddmkm has stopped responding', I sometimes get this when bootign into windows, as well as previewing images, using Windows Media Player or even looking at a video on youtube.

Now the latter I guess could be a GPU issue, or could infact be driver related. So I've uninstalled drivers, reverted back to 182, which I built the computer on and had no issues with. Still the same problem, albeit it took longer for the DoW issues to kick in.

I've downloaded Ati Tool to test for artifacts, and sometime it locks up and causes a driver fault, sometimes it artifacts every 30 seconds, once it hits 75oC and yet other times it'll be fine.

So my problem is, do I RMA even though it's not repeatable and has only shown issues with one game or do I hang tight and if it carries on/gets worse then try for a replacement.

here's some images of the DoW problem...

The last image is one of the first time I screen shotted the issue back when I was using 182 drivers, and the first 4 are what happens lately. It seems alt-tabbing stops it, but it happens again after a few seconds. I thought it could be overheating, so up the fan to 100% to help reduce the problem, and it does increase the time it takes for something to go like this.

I've posted on the relic forums, and all I was told was to underclock the card as it seems to be a VRAM issue, but would rather try for a repalcement if it's not happy working at factory settings. But like I say it's not something that can be repeated outside of DoW and even then, it's only in Single player.

Seems this session of Ati Tool is artifacting at 20 secs or less and is 30 mins in - the first 15 or so went past without faults, cards currently running at 76oC and has been recently cleaned.

Thanks and sorry for the long post, never had any issues like this in all my time building a comp, most things have either worked or not or a fault that is easily replicated.

Just loaded up Ati tool after rebooting, and tis artifacting again once it gets close to 74oC - after about 5 mins or so.

GPU-Z info:

GPU Temp: 75oC (same as EVGA Precision)
PCB: 60oC
GPU temp: 67.8oC (guessing vram?)
PCB: 61.8oC

Fan is at 45% (auto setting)

The tried and tested trick is to underclock the card and see if problems persist. If by doing so it solves the issue, then for sure the cards unable to cope with SSC clock speeds.

Cheers, downclocked to 650/1399/1100 and it's got past the problem of artifacting (using ati tool) within 30 secs and is currently at 4 mins without issues.

Temps are:

GPU: 76
PCB: 63
GPU: 68.8
PCB: 63.8

FAN: 47%

So guessing it's not a heat issue perhaps, as they are very similar?

Hmm, just tried DoW at those settings, played two single player maps with no issues.

Set the card back to default settings, tried DoW again. First map, I got a few issues..

Second map, I got a few issues then the screen started flickering and caused the screen to go black, alt-tabbed and found that the nvlddkm driver had stopped responding, but had been restarted - though DoW2 was no longer responding.

Guess it is time to RMA, though will give a more extensive run at the lower clock just to make sure before I do.

I just don't want the support team to not be able to find a fault with their tools :/

Have been running Ati Tool at stock clock this morning for 2 hours, with fan speed @ 60% - 63oC ish. So far no problems, so I guess it could be heat.. however DoW2 still gives issues even at 100% fan, so obviously it's all a bit strange.

Obviously something ain't quite kosher.

I would say it's not heat related going by yout temps, these cards are designed to operate fine even with temps of 80-90c. If the card was stable when you first purchased, then it's a deteriorating card that can't cope with the factory overclock, RMA time.

Yeah, think it is getting worse, DoW2 never had any issues till I had long gaming sessions and maybe it did damage as now it only takes 5 minutes, but the stability issues and crashes seem to be happening faster, more intense with worse results (crashes). Thanks for your help, but have got in contact with EVGA and the retailer so hopefully something will happen.

Yeah spoken to EVGA, sounds like they are happy for the retailer to replace, so hopefully won't be a problem.. Will soon see ;)
