So, I took the plunge and bagged myself the Black Friday Mega Gaming Z97 bundle:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-014-GI

I've got no current kit, game at 1080p, I know the Zotac is a beast of a card but have been pondering selling it and grabbing a 970, just for the power/heat/noise efficiency..

Was planning an i7 & 970 based build but couldn't resist the bundle..

So should I stick with the 780Ti or would you flog it brand new/unused and grab a 970 instead??

Cheers

Seems a bit of a hassle for a card that is very close in performance. If you'd have to wait till the Ti is sold then I wouldn't do it personally but if not, and you want it, then go for it. Otherwise you may be sitting with it hanging over your head down the line.

The time is now!. :D (good luck)

Hey J.D - spot on, I would have to wait for the Ti to sell before getting a 970, which would pickle my swede..

Am still not sure though, I mean, given I'm gaming at 1080p (and likely to for the foreseeable) would I be likely to hit a wall in any games due to the 3GB vs 4GB VRAM or anything else?

Has anyone got the Zotac in the bundle? If so, how do you rate it?

Cheers

Well if you've went without a PC for a certain amount of time, then what is another week or two?. It seems you are set on the 970 and the extra 1GB of RAM is a safety net if games start pushing beyond 3GB at 1080p. 3GB for now (and the foreseeable future) is fine for 1080p so don't let that sway your thought process.

While you await a response from a Zotac Ti user, look through the benchmark threads here at OCUK as well as review sites and see if it's going to be worth it. I can't see you making a wrong choice here regardless, so try not sweat this out too much :D.

I was set on a 970 when I was planning the build, but I couldn't resist the bundle when I saw it (magpie)

I know the Ti is more than powerful enough for my needs, overkill if anything, so was thinking about power consumption, heat and noise compared to the Asus, MSI and now Gibbo's Galax 970..

Thanks for the advice, research continues..
(Until the bundle arrives tomorrow of course)

:D

Decided to go for the Asus Strix 970 in the end - and the Zotac 780 Ti is now on flea bay..
Would have stuck in MM if I had enough posts, but them's the breaks..

Cheers

You think so?

I wanted a low power, quiet, powerful card with enough clout to run most/all games at 1080p with eye candy switched on..

The 780ti is overkill for 1080p and would consume much more power and run hotter than the Strix 970 surely?

Moving forward I was also under the impression the extra VRAM would be handy - as well as the other refinements to the design..

If/when I need to - I'd also be able to drop a 2nd 970 in..

If you can convince me otherwise I'd be interested to hear the reasoning, IMO it's not as simple as the 780ti being faster or more powerful..

Cheers

Power consumption difference in the cards is probably a tenner a year with 3 hours usage a day. I wasnt aware that the 780ti was known as an overly loud power hog so it seems a bit of a waste losing money selling a 780ti to get a 970.

Just seems like every other thread is along the lines of 'I've spent £2000 on a top end system but am now worried that card x, y, z uses too much power so I'd like to take an 80 quid loss selling my quicker card in order to buy a 970', followed by loads of posts going yeah yeah the 970 is much better because it uses less power.

The 780ti might arguably be overkill at 1080 in today's games but it might not be overkill in tomorrow's games. At which stage is an extra 1gb ram going to make a difference or are both 3 and 4gb cards going to lack RAM to run ultra textures, at which stage you'd need to get rid of either and buy an 8gb card?

Just seems a waste of time. The 780ti is an excellent card and you got it at an excellent price in the bundle. It's a quicker card which surely as a gamer you should celebrate rather than worry about a tiny amount of money saved in electricity.

Just my opinion as one who can't understand the hype over nvidia's excellently marketed mid range 970.

Cheers mulpsmebeauty - some decent points in there that I didn't consider initially..

My original build plan included a 970 - never expected to grab the bundle either, but couldn't resist it..

Cheers
