GPU Dying?

I have the feeling my BFG 280GTX is finally beginning to die. I seem to be having boot issues with it.

Sometimes when I boot the PC and start a game the screen will go multicoloured and crash the PC. If I reboot I can get back in to the OS but it keeps doing it when I start a game.

This morning when I boot up the pc it does the multicoloured screen thing when I log in to the OS. Switch PC off for 30 seconds and it seems to be working okay now.

Very odd!

Thoughts? PSU is a corsair 750W

it looks like your card is faulty. my gtx 280 had the same problem and someone else on this forum had the same problem when i did. it works when the card heats up because whatever is broken has expanded. when it cools down it gives the multicoloured or pink screen of death so when you first start a game it crashes but then after a while you will be able to play with no issues until the system has been off for a while.

Now I've just had this problem with a HD2900, which was fixed by stripping the card and baking it at 200 C for just over ten minutes. I swabbed off the thermal paste with alcohol, then took everything off I could. It worked. Whereas before I would get multicoloured lines on the desktop, pixellated or artifact game screens (or a system reboot when I started a game) now the card works fine. It is well worth a bash, and by way of a bonus my epenis now resembles a sated anaconda.

have you overclocked it?
if so try it at stock, if you RMA it and it works at stock they will send it straight back to you
