GPU fan at 100%, how long ?

I'd say an extremely long time, they're designed to run at maximum speed aren't they?

The bearings will obviously wear out over time, but I would say you'd have a couple years before it fails. The fans, CPU, GPU or case alike tend to average around 4-5 years of continuous use and if you clean them regularly.

Besides, unless you have extremely bad case temperatures or your GPU is on the high side, what need would there be to always run at 100%? Or do you like to hear the vaccum-like sound :D?

is there a way to set the auto speeds on your graphics card eg i have a 3870 and on auto its at about 30% most the time but its too low for my liking i would like to bump that to 40% and then above 50c upto 60% ???

when i manually set it to a % with riva tune sometimes i get vpu recovers and it trips back down to auto while in game so manually settign the auto settings upa bit wouldn't go a miss if it can be done...

You can use RivaTuner to change the speed depending on temps - depending on your version of RivaTuner you can either create launchers and then set up a scheduled change (set to change on a 'Core Temperature' event), or you can change something in the hardware settings section (although i forget what this was and it didnt work for me!). Google 'RivaTuner fan profiles' or something similar to find some good guides, or look at the guru3d forum.

This worked fine for me with an Nvidia card, and if you run RivaTuner all the time, could be the best way. I have no idea if there is another, better way for ATI cards.

You can also edit the BIOS of the card and flash it with new fan speed tables, but RivaTuner is probably easier (and easier to get rid of it it all goes wrong...!).
