Hi all,

Maybe a stupid question, but im curious :)

Does anyone know why manufacturers change the type of fan used on thier GPU's?

For example, if you go to the Sapphire website:

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=&psn=0001&gid=3&sgid=643

You can see 2 versions of the 5770 (Ignore the Vapour X), the only difference seems to be the fan used. Most now seem to be using this "New Edition" fan design:

Rather than this one:

However, around the web and reviews they always seem to show the brand of card with the latter fan design.

Anyone know why and which is better?

The original cards were released with the shroud cooler(your last link), it's just a standard design that AMD seem to use for it's coolers. Cards now come with the egg cooler, as it's cheaper, cooler and quieter, but doesn't exhaust the heat from the case.
