GPU fans going on and off

I recently got Plait GameRock 1080. I only game at 2560x1080p which means the card doesn't have to do that much and the temps are in 50 to 55 degrees most of the time. Especially when playing Rocket League which isn't that demanding. This means that the fans spin on and stop as soon as the card is cooled down to 50.

Is this likely to cause problems? Should I adjust fan profile so they come on at 45 degrees?

My Gigabyte gi 1080 does this too. With mine it will start and stop repeatedly which makes an annoying noise so i lifted the fan curve from 0 to 20 to keep it going even when idle.

Mine makes no noise so that's not an issue. If I didn't have a side window I wouldn't even know about this happening.
I might do what you did though.

You could try updating the BIOS.

The fans on my GTX1070 Gamerock Premium used to start and stop intermittently during desktop use. A BIOS update was released a month or two back which cured the issue. The fans now start up at 60C.

I`ve had a look on the Palit website, and there doesn't seem to be a new BIOS for your Gamerock card, but there is a BIOS for the Gamerock Premium version. You could try updating with that, there's a decent chance it may work. As your card has dual BIOS, you should switch to the secondary BIOS first, and upgrade that one. If anything goes wrong, you can switch back to the primary BIOS.

I`ve checked the BIOS files for the Super Jetstream and Gamerock Premium cards, and the filenames are the same. It would seem that the firmware is the same, and Palit have simply omitted the update on the Gamerock webpage.

You can avoid this with a custom fan profile.

I'll have a play later. Thanks

Not had a chance yet. It will be over Xmas if I do. Fan profile seems quicker and easier so I'll probably go that way. :)

BIOS flash took two minutes (maybe 5, including the download). No need to run any software to implement a fan profile. I also get slightly higher stable overclocks with the latest BIOS on my GTX1070.
