ok so its basically a 3870, 8800GT or GTS 512mb...
What I really wanted to know is would the GTS be just overkill for that resolution? I can afford it but if i dont need to spend the extra £40/50 i'd rather not, get another 2gb of ram instead or something.

how does that run games like crysis? my x1900 struggles at that res with everything at high with no aa. Ideally would like to have all settings maxed but sticking to 1360x768

Defiantly a 3850 512MB for less than £120. Don't really need anything more powerful at that res. Pretty sure it will run Crysis on high at that res, but if not its not like it REALLY matters, it's just one game!

well the point is if it doesnt then there's not much point in changing since my x1900 is nearly as good. Ok you've pretty much got me convinced on the 3870, prolly the one on this week only, or would I be better with a dual slot cooler one? I've got good case ventialtion so its no big deal really.

The x1900 is not nearly as good. The 3850 pro absolutely destroys it.

Also if you want something better than the 3850 then I would skip the 3870 and go straight to the 8800GT 512mb

Ok its decided, after doing a spot of reading up i've came to the conclusion that the 8800GT 512mb will suit my needs. Does it really matter which manufacturer I get? As far as I can see they pretty much all seem to be single slot cooled apart from the ones that are basically the same price as the GTS's. Need to wait till my mate decides whether he's getting a new hard drive too before I order so we can go halves on delivery.

Very good choice :), I run at 1680x1050 with that card and its great :D, so should be even better at your res!!

Dont matter which manufacturer, the Asus ones now all come with different coolers, depends what you want, with like BFG you get longer warranty.

i have an 8800GT 512mb on my 1360x768 HDTV and its great!

i downgraded from a 8800GTX and didnt notice that much difference. just buy the BFG OC one on special this week IMO!
