I use a 1080ti for 1440p on a 144hz Dell Gsync monitor and its great. The only issue is the 1080ti isn't worth buying new as they have gone up so much, if buying a new card then a 2080 would be my choice. But you can get a 1080ti second hand for around £500.
try turning v sync off but limit fps to 80fps, shouldn't get any screen tearing but its a decent little jump in fpsGTX 1080 here on 1440P 60Hz screen, run everything maxed out no issues. Obviously this is vsyncd at 60fps as I can't stand screen tearing.

RTX 2060?
Probably the only game I’m playing is pubg with everything set to low apart from textures which I have on high.
Frame rate is somewhat erratic at 75-100fps.
Card is the 1070 strix and cpu is an i5 6600k which are not overclocked due to my ****** move z170xp-Sli
