Perhaps a little early but given the glut of new cards due out between October to Febuary, what would anybody guess as to be the most cost effective and suitable GPU to buy? I had considered the new 9800 gtx but given the limitations of my monitor res.... I would be wondering if this would
be overkill? i would like the card to be able to play direct x 10 games at the above res.... and for the card to be future proof for at least up to a year. Thank you

No one can say until the cards are released. Out of the current cards I recommend the 8800GTX

Thanks but I would rather hold-off for the moment as the advent of new cards is most likely to effect current prices.

8800GTS 320 was fine at the resolution you mention

No way a 8800GTS 320mb should be recommended.

sorry but there isnt such a thing as future proof for me. GTS is the same tech as GTX, just the GTX is more powerful but that doesnt mean GTS wont play DX10. he may have to lower some settings but he will play the game

320Mb 8800GTS is fine here. Plays Bioshock maxxed out DX10 @ 1680x1050

I'll wait and see what its like in crysis and UT3 tho i think
