So I've just had the pleasant experience of a monitor having an electrical fault and sending a lovely wave of electricity back into my computer. After some testing, it would appear that the motherboard and graphics card have fried, but I was wondering if there is anything I can do to try and revive the graphics card or does it just go in the bin ?

oven baking is proven method, although it will not revive components that are electrically damaged.
@OP - how did you test the components and came to conclusion that MB a nd GPU are totally dead?
in the worst case, you can sell them on the auction site, maybe just few quid, but better than just binning.

must have been some surge to back feed through the DVI. Highly unlucky!
Sounds strange to me!!! 
Voltage for VGA is very low 5v+ i think!!
Have you checked your psu?
Have you just run the motherboard with only a cpu and memory installed?
Do the fans spin up?
Have you tried the graphics card in another pc?

I've tried the processors, memory and hard drives in another motherboard and they all work fine.
When I put the graphics card into this working motherboard, it doesn't output anything but the fans start spinning slowly.
If I try the old motherboard without any components, I only get the first splash image for a second using the onboard HDMI, but then it goes and boots no further.
I've tried clearing the CMOS on the motherboard, which is what got the splash image to display, but can't get any further.

Graphics card has DVI, HDMI and DP. Have tried DVI and HDMI and no luck

What card is it? If it's out of warranty you could try baking it (no joke).
